What To Know About Becoming A Sperm Donor

How To Get Started

Requirements for getting into the program include:

• 18-39 years old
• Any ethnicity
• College students and working professionals are welcome
• Commit to the program for at least 6 months.

A donor application can be completed online. The application will ask for your name, address, contact information, and a few questions about yourself such as height, weight, ethnicity, etc.

After completing the online application, potential donors can either schedule an in-person visit or stop by as a walk-in appointment. Either way, the first visit is a semen analysis.

The next steps in the application process are completing paperwork, medical screening, and lab work.

Staying Active In The Program

Donors are expected to donate at least once per week for at least six months. There is some flexibility to this if a donor takes some time off to enjoy holidays, go on vacation, or other reasons. Donors can spend 12 months or more in the program and are able to donate up to 3 times per week. Each donation is compensated at $100, so it starts to add up when donating more often. 

Benefits And Compensation

Active donors in the program are compensated up to $100 per donation. Other benefits to being in the program include:

  • Donors get routine health physicals and STI tests. Donors also get genetic carrier screening for 502 different genetic conditions.
• Flexible Scheduling
  • Donors can drop by and complete donations during any lab open hours. This is a great way to create balance, while earning additional income, with other time commitments.
• Helping Individuals And Couples Become Parents
  • Sperm donors provide fertility options for people with infertility or who are missing a sperm source.

Retiring From The Program

After at least six months, donors can decide to retire from the program. Donated samples are held in quarantine for six months per FDA regulations and can only be released after final negative STI test results. Anyone retiring will be asked to give their final blood draw six months after their last donation.

Once a donor has left the program, they will receive a yearly questionnaire asking about any health updates that would be relevant to potential offspring.
